While stripping the old finish, a chore in itself as I have no idea what they painted the original unit with, I discovered a decal between layers 1 & 2. The mixer had 4 layers of paint on it.
The aircraft grade paint stripper too 5 applications to get it to a point where I could take it back to my media blasting cabinet and get it down to bare metal. I never even bothered with calling Hobart to see if they had a decal of this design.
Searching on the internet I found some graphics that closely reproduced the period decal and made a set for the mixer.
I got inkjet decal paper from Decal Paper.com I printed it on the white background paper (they also have clear) and then over coated it with a couple of thin layers of Krylon clear. The picture doesn't do it justice...
